How much should I charge?

If only someone would just list prices that would be the absolute (in terms of CSS positioning… insider for my fellow web developers) all-answer to the much sought-after question by designers and creative persons alike, “How much do I charge for this?”

Usually this question comes from novice freelancers. But time to time, we all run into this paradigm. And then when we go searching for answers, they flow like waterfalls into the vast, open ocean of possibilities (and variables).

But for the most part, these answers coincide on some level to some extent to some degree. For those of you who like that new-book smell (or eBook smell)… you might want to check out the sixth chapter from “Logo Design Love” by David Airey (while you’re there you might as well check out the rest of his site and other blogs… awesome… whole ‘nother post). In this chapter, he discusses Pricing design and breaks it into 6 criteria:

Level of expertise
Project specification
Expected turnaround time
Additional service and support
Level of demand
Current economy

Cross-browser Compatibility Part 1

The most frustrating aspect of web development is by far cross-browser compatibility. The ever open question looms in cyberspace, “Why can’t all browsers just play in the same sandbox?” Well… the answer to such questions ultimately lies in the almighty greenback. But that’s not what this post is about. No sense crying over spoiled milk, right?

Let’s be solution oriented and dive right into the nitty gritty of the matter: “How can we make all the browsers play nice in the same sandbox?” To answer this question, I have placed a few links below as references. But before we go there, you must know… the answers are far and in between; so I will split these posts into “parts” as I come across solutions (fixes).

So… here are the entries for cross-browser compatibility part 1:

Hopefully, we only need resources like these for a little while longer (ETA… a couple years maybe). But don’t throw in the towel yet! This all depends on how quickly browsers adjust/adopt the new HTML5 and CSS3 framework.

Yes, the answers to all our compatibility problems. So let’s rally together and hasten the pace for change! After all, if greenbacks control browser development… and consumers regulate the flow of greenbacks… hmmmmmm… have you consumed lately?

Top 8 JavaScript Galleries

Cats Who Code is a web development blog that provides high quality resources and useful tutorials. Despite the funny name, they really have a lot of good resources (more like puzzle pieces) for web development.

Upon looking for some galleries to showcase artwork, I came across this post which features the Top 10 JavaScript slideshows, carousels and sliders. I know it says “10″, but I filtered through to the ones that actually work and/or still exist.

Space Gallery: very simple in nature… customizable to meet your needs if you know how to tweak JavaScript
Noobslide: which features a plethora of options within itself
SmoothGallery: a little complex, but once you figure it out it’s pretty cool
jQuery Multimedia Portfolio: might I add, I love jQuery… it’s so easy to use… literally plug-n-play functionality; though it would seem quite the task to tweak this if you’re not familiar with jQuery
jCarousel: allows for user-friendly customization for static, dynamic, or special usage (also runs off of jQuery)
Glider: simple and easy to use for static content (as is), but customizable if you’re familiar with JavaScript coding
YUI 2 Carousel: This Yahoo! developed script is extremely diverse (the possibilities are near endless)
Carousel Slideshow: 3D style carousel (in the true meaning of the word) with custom width, height, and side attributes

Dendon Imports Stationery

This logo and stationery set was developed for Dendon Imports of Bermuda to brand their new island-based company. The stationery design (shown below) was also incorporated into their new website. This set includes (from top to bottom): business card front and back, letterhead, and #10 envelope.
